ABSTRACT

Epidemiological studies, both in general and specifically, are part of the health promotion process and prophylactic actions that can generate treatment plans for a population, however, the accomplishment of prophylactic work in relation to musculoskeletal(i.e., traumatological) problems must start from the specific and go to the general, from cities to a national plan, since each population has its own characteristics in the general picture of conditions. Hypothetically, the epidemiological profile in traumatology and orthopedics, due to the general behavior in the national territory, presents the lack of prevention; in this way, is necessary to verify. This work aims to determine the incidence of orthopedic and traumatological problems in the region of Palmas, state of Tocantins (TO), Brazil, in order to contribute to a possible prophylactic plan for the population of the region. The data of the present study agree with most other studies about the orthopedic profile in terms of gender, age and problems with vertebral column, in general. However, the finding that most of the conditions were associated with scoliosis was unexpected, as it differs from the findings of most studies. It was possible to establish a profile of patients seen at the clinic-school and indicate the management of training for health professionals related to the treatment of people over the age of 40 years. The importance of the action of physiotherapists in the processes of prevention and primary care was evident given the patients indicated in this and other articles who need help with traumatic diseases.

ABSTRACT

Epidemiological investigations have shown that intestinal parasites are highly prevalent in developing countries. The ingestion of vegetables contaminated by human waste is a major route of transmission of these infections. There is little research on strategies for control of food contamination and, as Brazil is a country with poor sanitation, care of the production and handling of foods, especially those eaten raw, should be intensified. The aim of this study was to determine qualitatively the presence of evolutionary forms of intestinal parasites in lettuce sold in Anápolis- GO. For analysis were used 62 samples of lettuce (Lactuva sativa) from traditional cultivation and 17 from hydroponic cultivation. All were acquired at random during the months of September 2009 to January 2010, with 39 samples from several supermarkets, 20 in free markets and 20 in retail shops in different parts of town. The analysis showed the presence of intestinal parasites in all samples, indicating poor sanitary in the production, probably due to water contamination used in the cultivation. Anápolis is a great city and presents good socioeconomic conditions, however, relevant measures should be taken by relevant agencies to try will better sanitation

Anatomical study of the forearm deep muscles in Cebus apella(Linnaeus, 1766). Eight adult specimens of Cebus apella were used for anatomical musclescharacterization. The animals were donated by the Brazilian Institute of Environment andRecyclable Natural Resources (Ibama – Instituto Brasileiro de Meio - Ambiente), from SeteLagoas, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and sacrificed according to the recommendations ofBrazilian College of Animal Experimentation (Cobea – Colégio Brasileiro de ExperimentaçãoAnimal). This work was approved by ethics committee from UFU (Federal University ofUberlândia). The muscles (1) squared pronator, (2) deep fingers flexor and (3) long thumbflexor were studied. In human beings, the deep muscles of Cebus apella have some generalcommon characteristics, but differ in form, vascularization and innervation. Thesedifferences should reflect the functional specialization of those muscles between the twospecies. The long thumb flexor muscle is important for human beings’ fingers movementsince the force of hand in Cebus paella is a necessary characteristic to this species, accordingto its arboreous habit.
